PRESIDENTS

The following is a list of the men who have served as President of the Connecticut State Board of the Ancient order of Hibernians since 1872 when the first State Convention was held. Initially the post was referred to as the State Delegate and the term of office was for one year.  In 1882 the term of office became two years when the National and State organizations began holding Biennial Conventions. In 1894 the title of the office was changed from “Delegate “to “President.”

The position of Vice President was authorized at the National Convention 0f 1902 and the first State Vice-President of the Connecticut State Board of the A O H was elected that same year. The following men have filled that position. Many but not all went on to become State president

*1        John A. Gildea died in office and Cornelius Collins was elected to replace him.

*2        The 1972 National Convention passed a Constitution Amendment mandating that State Conventions be held on the off year between National Conventions which meant that there were State Conventions in both 1972 and 1973.
